4-H Program Impact

Decent Essays
The 4-H program has impacted my life in many ways; first it has allowed me to discover and nurture my passion for serving children in foster care, as well as, their families. In addition, I have gained the skill of public speaking, especially extemporaneous speeches, as well as, learning to set and reach goals; rand ealizing that "mistakes are proof that you are trying." In addition, I have learned the power of true friendship and can truly say my 4-H friends are also my family. This amazing program has shown me that I lead best by inspiration; by inspiring others to go above and beyond their comfort zone and to not be afraid of failure. I began 4-H as a high school sophomore afraid of everyone, from the cashier at the store, to my teacher

Kids of my generation around America today are becoming lazier and lazier, losing interest in school faster and faster, and helping each other less and less. However, there are organizations that are helping kids maximize on their potential and to be the leaders of tomorrow, one of them being NHS. It starts from the very beginning, giving kids the goal of being in the association in the first place. People are nothing without goals, and by giving kids that might be lost or confused a good goal, it has pushed them in the right direction. Secondly, NHS pushes us to become leaders, and what better way to become a leader than doing community service, and doing extracurricular activities in school.…

I believe that everyone has that one story to tell, the unforgettable story that makes them who they are today. The story they feel completes them. My story is about archery, and my journey to nationals. It was a year and a half ago when my mom brought to my attention that I didn’t have a lot of community service hours. I thought it would be a good idea to get involved into an organization called 4-H. 4-H is is a global network of youth organizations whose mission is "engaging youth to reach their fullest potential while advancing the field of youth development".…

I have gained several skills though my 4-H experiences that I will utilize later in my life. 4-H first taught me, through my projects, time management, responsibility, and patience. I learned that starting the project just days before the fair was not ideal and caused significant stress and the possibility of having a project that I would have like to expand on. I also had to learn how to balance finishing my projects, school work, chores, and social life. With my livestock projects I learned responsibility from a young age.…

It pushed me to become more active at school and outside in my environment. I truly believed that all of these volunteer and leadership experiences boosted up my character as an individual. One specific factor is that I am definitely not as timid with talking to a large student body in public. I used to be very shy and hesitant to speak my mind in front of a large group due to a fear that others would judge me. However, I soon learned that those issues do not matter and now I know how to professionally handle those situations of me speaking in front of a large crowd.…

I was also in 4-H, a club where you can do pretty much anything. I was involved in Archery, where yes, we learned more than to shoot at a target. I learned showmanship, respect, leadership, and responsibility. We also learned to be nice and friendly, because some people aren’t as skilled as you, doesn’t mean that they can’t get there, and maybe if you help them they can succeed like you. This year, 2015-16, I joined FCCLA, which I regrettably wish I had joined sooner.…
