The first source was a bathtub faucet which was measured in a closed bathroom. It was measured about six inches from the faucet only getting 75.7dBA. The second source was an all metal toolbox closing. Measured six inches from the source, while it is only a quick increase at 90.1Dba, everyday exposure can be damaging. The next source was an acoustic guitar being strummed in my apartment. The meter was roughly one foot away on a table. This was under the minimum requirement to be considered dangerous on the NIOSH chart at 82.3dBA, but a long practice without protection can be detrimental. One of my loudest sources was at a hip hop show at Reggie’s record store at 109.4dBA. The PA being used was small, but they had it turned way up. On top of that, the place was very crowded and loud …show more content…
It came in around 72.4dBA from one foot away. My loudest measurement was an ambulance driving by on Harrison. I was on the other side of the street and it flew by me giving off 124.8dBA. The NIOSH chart says a person should not listen to 112dBA for over one minute. Damage can be felt almost immediately after it passed. My 15-watt Behringer amp at half volume gave off 95.7dB. I held the meter eye level, so it would be what my ears experience. According to the NIOSH chart, a person should not be exposed more than an hour at this level. My hair dryer measured at around how far I hold it to my head gave off 92.4dBA. I measured this in a closed bathroom. Fortunately, the NIOSH chart say I will be okay if under two hours. I was most curious at how loud my vacuum would end up. It only came in at 74.1dBA when I vacuumed my carpet, but at least I am safe and have a clean carpet now. My own curiosity led me to hear how quiet whispering was. So me and my roommate had a chat with the meter about a foot away from our heads. We gave off 48.2dBA. It was louder than I expected, but around where I saw it would

Lower Sample Rate (22,050 SR, 128 kbps): 8/10 Since there was some slight static, we gave the sample a 8/10. This could have occurred because of the rustling of the recorders jacket. Since the phone was placed close to the recorder, this sound could have been easy to pick up by the recording device. I think if we were able to listen to the recording with headphones, it would have been a more accurate depiction of the quality. There was some breathing and wind sound that could be heard in the background noise, especially in the rainbow passage reading.…

I chose to change the inclination to a 75-degree angle for the third lab assignment. If I were a bird researcher studying a population of birds and the earth began to shift to a 75-degree inclination, the biggest change would be a rise in temperature at the latitude marked with the white “X”. At the original 35-degree inclination, the average temps for early spring are mild and as the months continue into summer; the average daily temperatures do not go above what is described as mild and a half. If a gradual shift began towards a 75-degree inclination, you would begin to see a rise in the temperatures for this region. In the early spring, you might still find mild temperatures but as the spring progresses into summer, the temperatures…

Julian then goes on to mention a statistic on how everything around us is vibrating. Acoustic reflexes are contractions of the stapedius muscle in the middle ear. This reflex occurs when a loud sound is presented to the ear causing the tympanic membrane to stiffen and cause a change in immittance (Martin & Clark, 2012). When measuring the acoustic reflex threshold, we are measuring the softest sound that can cause a reflex of the stapedius muscle as well as the duration of time needed for the reflex to decay. The reflex is presented as a deflection, or a curve/dip, on the immitance monitor of the device used (Campbell, 2014). Acoustic Reflex measurements are a part of the immittance battery tests and use the same device as that of tympanometry testing.…
