3a) Information that is available from the case study. Examples of this include Jessica’s background, education etc. Jessica is a second generation Chinese American who came from Taiwan. She has one younger brother. Both of her parents are working in education sector and are inactive in community affairs. She has excellent achievement during her high school. For example, she was salutatorian of her class, and a National Merit finalist. Jessica was graduated from Cornell with B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering and computer science. She met her husband here, who was her fellow graduate student. After she complete her Ph.D., Jessica work as a design engineer at Dynamo Disc Incorporated. Jessica show her disappointed and unhappy for not given chances to move up as most of her peers. Jessica’s supervisor was surprised with her interest in managerial position. Nevertheless, Jessica’s supervisor think that she is lack of confident and leadership skills. Jessica angry with the meeting, she afterward selected Marge Ross, one of the woman managers in Dynamo, as her role model. Jessica learns from Marge and became more initiative and enthusiastic. She improve her presentation skills and able to encountering sexual and racial jokes. Jessica’s transformation brings her to a promotion as a first line manager. She encountered first challenges as a manager from her subordinates because they didn’t believe her ability to lead them. Jessica success to subdue her subordinates over time, for example she would give support to them by sending birthdays cards. She lead her team to achieve a great reputation. Nevertheless, Jessica’s success was occasionally follow with self-doubt. Many of Jessica’s high school friends were raising families and her parents were stated their desire for having grandchildren. Therefore, he offered Jessica a job to be a leader of Dynamo’s negotiation team with a Taiwanese company. Jessica enthusiasm for doing this task by studies the background of the Taiwanese company and also reviewed her Mandarin Chinese. Jessica’s first meeting with the customer didn’t go very well as Jessica expected. This happens because the senior manager of the Taiwanese firm would more likely to negotiate with a man. Besides, Jessica’s heritage presented them to expect that she should put much loyalty on Chinese people rather than Dynamo. Nevertheless, Jessica’s technical depth was successfully impress them and superior to other competitors. Taiwanese firm engineer thought Jessica to strengthen the offer by bribe. Jessica was hesitating because this contract is significantly important to reduce the layoffs in Dynamo and such practices are very common in many places. Jessica finally rejects offer by engineer and the contract is awarded to Dynamo’s competitor. As a result, Jessica decides to resigned because she fail to deal with the guilt and resultant
