3 Branches of Government The legislative branch has many checks over the executive branch and the judicial branch. It has a few checks over the executive branch. First, it may override presidential vetoes with a two-thirds vote, which means that each two houses in Congress have to approve the bill. Some cases majority votes do not occur, which is called a bipartisanship. Bipartisanship is when you comprise and that can also help gaining a majority vote causing it to override the veto. If neither one of those things work then they can declare the law unconstitutional. Second, it has the power to fund any executive actions. Most of the time, the person in this position is the senior senator of the majority people and also the highest ranking member of the Senate. They have many responsibilities which include meeting with the opposing parties whips to set the agenda and sort out all the procedural details. Secondly, they come up with a list of members who would like to speak on behalf of proposed laws and then give this to the Speaker or the President. Lastly, they have to make sure that all party members vote as a team and attend all meetings. These things are just a few examples of the many responsibilities that they have. Whips usually sit in the back row behind their party in the House of Representatives and sit with their party towards the President in the Senate.
