Many years people have been mining 370 meters under the earth to find uranium and make nuclear energy, and the after result is nuclear waste. Nuclear waste is a problem we had for decades. The 3 Mile Island is one of the biggest nuclear problem we, and yet barely any of the nuclear waste got out it caused a huge amount of damage to the environment. Not everybody will agree that nuclear waste can be used for good because nuclear waste did take many lives and caused a lot deformities. People can use nuclear waste to help humanity. Nuclear Energy can fuel rockets to mars and it will only take a grain of nuclear energy to go that far, so nuclear-related things have potential. As UW TODAY stated”Only

Humans are another reason why nuclear waste is so dangerous. Terrorists can cause a nuclear waste leak in the strorages though many state nuclear power plants are safe terrorists can still break into them and make a leakage. Nuclear waste does not go away that easily. It stays in the earth for like hundreds of years. Many organizations are spending a lot of money trying to make faster reactors and make the process go faster. Deformity in animals is another huge concern because when U.S dropped nuclear bombs on japan earless rabbits were born in japan and it was common for awhile. Many plants and insects were deformed too, like the Fukushima. It was growing another pair of …show more content…
But this theory has many problems too. The launching of the nuclear waste is too much money and there is a chance that the nuclear waste might leak out of the rocket and cause another nuclear-related tragedy. Leaving nuclear waste above ground is getting investigated in places like U.K,U.S.A,France,Netherlands and Switzerland. All those countries are using this method but no special equipment is made for it other than nuclear waste storages. Another way of getting rid of nuclear waste is by rock melting. The way they do it is that they get a nuclear waste storage and they bury nuclear waste underground. The really hot temperature makes the harmful chemicals not as harmful. Even though it sounds good, it has it’s downsides too. Putting a very toxic substance underground can contaminate crops and soil and even more. It can also mix with any underground water ways so it is very risky to use this method. Sea disposal is very common knowing that 12 countries use it. They have many tools for this method but it is not recommended by international agreements. Many living things are in the sea. So contaminating it with toxic liquids is very risky as

The nuclear power plants let the waste cool for an amount of time before combining it with glass and putting it away into gigantic cooled, solid structures. This avoids the possibility of the materials falling into the wrong hands (terrorist activities). It costs a lot of money to put together the plant, mine for uranium, transport the uranium to and from the facilities and to find a place to store it. The money could be invested for many other important things, rather than possibly ruining our environment more.…

Nuclear power plants run on uranium, and mining and refining uranium can be very hazardous. When the uranium is done being used, you can’t just get rid of it and put in the trash. It is very radioactive and toxic, so it will have to be exposed properly. A nuclear accident could occur, and could cause a chain reaction, which is a chemical reaction in which chemicals…

There many examples what good it’s done for us and many harm that it caused. It has allowed us to use it for greater things but also taken advantage of by using it for weapons of destruction. They’ve already used one on people already and killed many. That is not the way using nuclear fission, they use it for threats, power, and their own purposes.…

This weeks topic focused on hazardous waste and radiation. While listening to the lecture, I found of a place I didn’t even know existed. The Yucca Mountain Nuclear waste repository is located in Tonoppah, Nevada. This place is designated to to be a deep geological repository storage facility for spent nuclear fuel and other high level radioactive waste. I could see why the U.S government funded for this place to be build here since it’s in the middle of nowhere.…

Centralized Nuclear Waste Storage Introduction Approximately twenty percent of the electric power in America is generated through a nuclear reaction, and as a result of the production, high-level nuclear waste is created. Imperatively, the nation must find a way on how to store its nuclear waste. Yucca Mountain in the state of Nevada was identified by the Department of Energy and subsequently approved by both the Congressional and the Executive branches of government as a repository site for nuclear waste. However, Nevada State Politicians, in a desire to get elected, provide ample proof that nuclear waste has disadvantages, Department of Energy and United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission research on nuclear waste storage and economic advantages…

Currently, America places their nuclear waste inside the depths of Yucca Mountain, which lies along a giant fault line. This fault line has not been active in years, however that is not to say that it could not become active in the future. There is not an infinite amount of space available to store the nuclear waste, and therefore there will come a time when…

Nuclear Waste in Mississippi (Milestone 2) Elizabeth Pritchard SCI 333 Professor Kimberly Schulte July 10, 2016 Product Need Nuclear waste and radioactive waste in general are ongoing issues. When the nuclear power and radioactive materials that we use today were created and initially used many years ago, scientists were not concerned with the disposal methods as much as they are today because of the fact that they would not have worry about that any time soon after the production(Nuclear Waste, 2015). Today we are faced with the issue that previous researchers have left to wander and that is properly disposing of the radioactive waste and having the space and facilities to do so. Radioactive waste has been continuously generated…

In Hanford, Washington, the temperature is good because it is only 110℉ in the summer & in the winter it is 10℉. I believe the nuclear waste can handle it because the waste can be in temperatures up to 2,464℉ and the temperatures are not above the about of heat and coldness of…

Containment is a documentary directed by Peter Galison and Robb Moss. The film looks at how countries like the US and China they deal with nuclear waste from Nuclear Power Plants. What we learn is that nuclear waste is some of the deadliest, most long-lasting substances ever produce by man that ruins everything that it comes into contact with. While Nuclear Power Plants are very safe with most having multiple failsafe in case of a meltdown there are cases where these failsafe’s fail. Such as with Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant or the South Carolina plant that complete destroyed the local environment with radioactive animals from the nuclear waste leaking out.…
