Why Do College Students Choose To Participate In College?

The average Class of 2016 college graduate in the United States had $37,172 in student loan debt ("U.S. Student Loan Debt Statistics for 2016 | Student Loan Hero."). College is a huge endeavor that requires great amounts of money, time, and effort. Why do college students choose to put themselves through this great ordeal? It is different for each student, but I have chosen the 3 major factors that influenced my decision.
First of all, I decided college would be the best way for me to secure a good future for myself and my future family. Career opportunity is widened exponentially when you have a college degree. Education is power. As we learn new things, we become more and more capable. A great aspect of college is the fact that you receive an education that includes general educational, depth education, and major courses. General education serves to make an individual well-rounded and knowledgeable on a wide range of subjects. It guides a student in their path to finding their desired career by being able to test a portion of a variety of disciplines. Depth Education refers to more intensive study of certain subjects with classes that are more advanced. A student must choose a few classes from a large list, in which they would like to gain additional education. This serves to help one further study and specialize some of the general subjects that interested them. The last part of an education are the major courses. These courses serve to specialize a student in their chosen field. This is what makes a student capable of working in a certain field. The reason that these three forms of education are required is that they all serve to make a student more educated and well rounded. It helps solidify the ideas that they have about their future and prepare them to perform well in their careers. Removing one of the three greatly diminishes the quality of one’s …show more content…
You can more fully participate in society and contribute positively. Educated people are able to weigh in on social issues in a different way because they understand them much more profoundly. College also helps you develop an ability to think much more deeply. The ability to think deeply and reason is greatly contributed to receiving a complete education with the three aspects previously mentioned. Just as an athlete must train using diverse techniques in order to reach their physical peak, so to must a student use “diverse techniques” (the three parts of a USU education) in order to reach their intellectual potential. These qualities will contribute to being effective as a father, spouse, and even in my future career. I want to become one of these highly educated people to benefit myself, my family, and society.
College is mentally straining, time consuming, and expensive. College is worth all of the sacrifices that it requires. It helps prepare you for life and your future career in so many different aspects. I know that I have made the right decision in doing
