Three General Orders
On June 21, 2011 Spc Brown and I were on CQ duty. 1SG, the SDO and the Platoon Sergeants conducted a walkthrough of the unit’s footprint. When they entered I was laid back at the desk watching a movie, on my phone and had my boots on the desk. I did not immediately stand up or yell “AT EASE” when she entered or exited the building. She also noticed that I wasn’t writing the log down correct and didn’t log Spc Brown out when he left for dinner chow. 1SG asked if I had read the memorandum and my 3 General Orders. I quickly responded “Negative 1Sg I do not.” Upon them leaving once again I didn’t render the proper “AT EASE” when she left the building. Military discipline is important in carrying out duties because without discipline then soldiers won’t perform their duties in the amount of time that is expected of them. Every Soldier must be alert and never surprised and always ready to stop visitors or vehicles that may come thru your assigned area. All visitors must be stopped and asked for proper I.D to verify why they are coming into your designated area. For example: you were assigned gate duty on the south end of your FOB. You’ve have sleep deprivation, malnourished and pulling guard all day. You decided to sleep before your relief showed up within the hour and no one would see you. Before dozing off you put your weapon down, remove your protective helmet and unbuttoned your flight vest. After you doze off for only seconds to you was minutes to your battle that was unaware of your actions. Suddenly, your receive small arms fire and your battle gets down to take cover, calling out for your help, and cannot wake you from your sleep.
