2BRO2B Kurt Vonnegut Analysis

A story about a man named Edward K. Wehling Jr., his wife, and his three new born children that may have to be killed. 2BRO2B by Kurt Vonnegut takes place in a wicked, messed up world in Chicago. The story is about how population control is one of the most important things. Supposaly, having the population get to “high”, the world then goes into chaos. Saying there is not enough water, and the only food is seaweed. Moving onto the evidence. There is many pieces of evidence in the story. One of the really big ons is, “The law said that no newborn child could survive unless the parents of the new child could find someone who would volunteer to die. Triplets, if they were to all live, called for three voluneteers.” This introduces the conflict in the story. What this is saying is that by law, there has to be people that will willingly give up there lives for a child. Another really strong piece of textual evidence is, “Wehling shot Dr.Hitz dead…” , “And then he shot Leora Duncan…” , “And then he shot himself…” This shows just how far parents will go to keep there children alive, again connecting to the claim of how this world is wicked. This is supported by, “Without population control, human beings would now be packed on this surface of this old planet…” What Hitz is saying is that without the law, the planet or earth would be packed, or crowded. Another strong piece is, “He or she is going to live on a happy, roomy, clean, rich planet thanks to population control.” This is explicitly stating the reasons Hitz decided to believe in the “population law”.
