Earlier this morning, a photojournalist captured photos of an intoxicated man shooting aimlessly at people passing by the local grocery store, killing three and injuring twelve. Around 6:30am, just before sunrise, a presumably intoxicated man was swearing and grasping a gun in his left hand. “The man was screaming and swearing but his words were slurred” said Tabitha Smith, a bystander. There were few people at the Walmart Super Center on Market Street but that only seemed to play in favor for the perpetrator. Among the people at the local grocery store happened to be an upcoming photojournalist, Jeffrey Miller. Miller reported, “When I took the pictures I did not imagine they would spread all over the news. My hearts go out to the families of the victims.” …show more content…

Nedzel initially catches every person’s eye by starting off the very first sentence by listing every school shooting. Nedzel uses pathos in that moment to set a serious tone and begins to engage reader’s attention. The author notes that school shootings are shattering and has concerned society from the start. “Concealed Carry” shows how school shootings started as an individual killing one or two people, but has evolved to an individual killing a large number of faculty or students. Some parents or grandparents reading the article written by Nedzel immediately begin to visualize their children or grandchildren sitting innocently in the classroom when a terrifying being barges in the door with a gun ready to shoot their precious child and their friends.…

To oversimplify, matters surrounding privacy can be color coded. There are some issues that are very black and white related to the need to “violate” privacy. However, there are also quite a few gray areas where more research needs to be conducted and statistics gathered to formulate guidelines to determine when it is indeed necessary. Privacy in general needs to be treated in a way that is different from other rights and based on the serious consequences of not revealing facts that would be considered “private”.…

One point of a journalist is to minimize harm and they were adding extra harm to this family. But as I have said earlier this photo was more beneficial to the general public to show the truth behind war than beneficial to the family not to see it, I don’t want to sound like a monster because I am empathetic for them… but it’s the truth just like its truthful that people die how their son did everyday but isn’t well documented. Something I’ve grown up hearing with regard to that would be that; the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.…

I find that his article conveys a sentiment that guns are not the problem concerning the recent prevalence of mass shootings, rather that that the actions of past gunmen, namely Harris and Klebold, has set a “cultural script” for the next generation of shooters. It is harrowing to think that young men such as David LaDue, who ordinarily would not even consider these acts, would enthusiastically plot them under motivation from past killers. Even though he may have been mildly autistic, it still speaks volumes about our culture, that we as a society have become too violent. What could be a solution this epidemic of violence? I think that we should increase efforts towards detecting cases of poor psychological health/abnormally violent tendencies,…

The controversy over the photograph “falling man” is that it captures a man before he dies during the horrific terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York City in 2001. In the article, it states, “The decision to publish dramatic and tragic photographs that depict the horrors of war is never easy.” (Irby, K, 2011) The “falling man” photograph may be very upsetting on many spectrums; however, it captures the reality and truth of what transpired that day. I also think the controversy has to do with the sensitive nature of privacy, in relation to the man’s identity or risking the chance that family recognizing the individual.…
