The pesticide affects the neurons in the brain and slows down a human brains development (Kuroda, 2012). This is most dangerous in children because their brains are still developing (Kuroda, 2012). Through several studies done on rats, neonicotinoids have been known to induce the release of dopamine in the system (Kuroda, 2012). It affects mammals just like it affected bees.…

Final Research Project: Cotard’s Syndrome Background: I was first introduced to Cotard’s Syndrome when it grabbed my attention when I read Anil Ananthaswamy’s book titled The Man Who Wasn’t There. The stories that were described in his book allowed me to gain an inside look on people with this rare disorder that ruins one’s perception of self. Cotard’s Syndrome or Cotard Delusion is a mental illness that leaves the patient believing that they are, in broad terms, dead. They may feel like they don’t exist or never existed, are missing organs or parts of their body, are putrefying, and paradoxically are immortal. These delusions can lead the patient to dying of starvation like the first recorded case made by Jules Cotard or they can soon overcome…

The sensitive period of life is a time of development when humans are susceptible to certain stimuli in their environments. However, the effects of these stimuli can be reversed (Feldman, R.S., 2015, p. 96). The treatment of this infant may be different in the personal household than in public. The mother’s use of teratogens, or harmful substances that may cause birth defects, whether or not they are visible is crucial in the health of this infant (Feldman, R.S., 2015, p. 63). During this time, it is also important for the infant to create a trusting relationship with the caregiver.…

The end goal for any scientist is to find a problem, discover a way to solve it, create a hypothesis, test the hypothesis, and potentially succeed and share their discovery. This leads to advances in every industry, from medical equipment to efficient energy consumption, and even the field of psychology. The purpose behind developmental science is to better understand the factors that play a role in the formation of ourselves as individuals. One great example of a trend I am sure developmental scientists are watching closely is the effect and possible solutions to the problems created by the overuse of technology by our generation (21st century). I find great interest in any field that involves development, because development means there will…

In 1523 Giovanni da Verrazzano set sail on a quest to explore the West on behalf of France. The voyage was plagued with various issues as he searched for a passage to the Pacific Ocean and Asia. As Verrazzano sailed up the East coast of the Americas to finally rest at what today is known as Newport, Rhode Island he observed many signs of Native American’s inhabiting the coastline (Staff, 2012). Around the time Verrazzano was traveling up the East coast Native American populations were estimated to be between 2 million and 18 million strong. While there is a huge variance in this estimation, there is little doubt that the Americas were well populated by then (Calloway, 2012).…

As an aside, I have often found that the things most likely to be dangerous are the ones that most want you to believe that they are safe. In our investigations into the unmentioned side effects of our day to day products online, this trend seemed to hold across product areas including products like blistex and baby…
