Psychoanalytic Personality Assessment
In an attempt to understand the human psyche as it relates to personality, theorists such as Sigmund Freud, Carl G. Jung, and Alfred Adler all developed their theories to describe personality. To better understand the mentioned theorist’s beliefs it is necessary to compare and contrast the various psychoanalytic theories characteristics as well as to make mention of the portions that are agreeable or disagreeable. Also, the stages of Sigmund Freud's theory and Freudian defense mechanisms will be conversed.

In this stage, a boy will become jealous of his father who he believes will punish him for showing feelings. Young children in the phallic stage will feel competition for attention between the child and parents. Boys will be jealous of the father’s affection for the mother and daughters will be jealous of the affection of the mother towards the father. This is also a stage where children start to identify with their parents and begin to model the parents’ behavior and habits. The Latency Stage is where there are sexual urges are repressed. Children in this stage tend to continue to interact and play with the same sex and are not too interested in the opposite sex yet. The last phase the Genital Stage is where “the lessons learned during the previous stages, adolescents direct their sexual urges onto opposite sex peers, with the primary focus of pleasure is the genitals” (Heffner, 2014).
Freud Defense Mechanisms
Freud constructed six defense mechanisms; repression, denial, projection, displacement, regression, and sublimation. The denial defense is common in our society, people just block the experience from their awareness rather than dealing with the situation or experience. An overweight person may refuse to admit that eating fast food daily is bad for their health. In the displacement defense mechanism, a person will take out their aggression or frustration on another person or object. A parent who is stressed out at work may come home and
