I’m willing to date myself by quoting a Woodstock-era folk song because if you haven’t looked around the Logistics Readiness Officer (LRO) career field lately, suffice to say that the times are changing and it’s exciting! After a decade of trial and error, the 21R career field has gotten serious about how to develop the next generation of commanders. The effort underway is taking the concept of the LRO from three haphazardly-kluged specialties down a path of creating a tactical expert that will be ready to lead in war. Bureaucratic and cultural obstacles are steadily being eroded and senior leaders in the 21R career field are developing strategies and making long-term investments into the professional development of our junior LROs.
