This would also inspire more citizens to join the army. Alfred Mahan also stated that a bigger navy was needed to protect American merchant ships. The navy would be a big help in expanding because traveling across oceans would become a necessity and the navy would make sure that it’s safe.
Another reason that the U.S. should take an Imperialistic role is a good idea is to spread religion throughout the world. Many places around the world have different beliefs and the U.S should tell their beliefs and spread them. The U.S at the time thought that their beliefs were correct and that people who didn’t agree with them were uncivilized. Rudyard Kipling wrote “The White Man’s Burden,” which described how the U.S was bringing their new thoughts, beliefs, and “wisdom” to the Philippines. The U.S spreading their ideas and beliefs is another example of how following an Imperialistic role would be good.
Overall, the U.S. should have taken an imperialistic role during the 19th and 20th century.
