The 2016 Super Bowl Commercial named “ The Longest Chase,” introduces the all-new redesigned 2016 Toyota Prius. The 1: 40 minutes commercial, starts by showing four thieves who choose an all-new Prius as their getaway car, but to their surprise they discover that it is much more than a comfortable ride with innovative safety technology. This commercial’s purpose is to show case that the 2016 Prius is more than a safe and pleasant ride, it has unexpected power and performance which can turn any drive into an occasion worth sharing with the entire world. The tone applied in this commercial is a combination of marketing tones, which uses persuasive text tapping into the viewer’s emotions. The authors are trying to change the views that consumers have of the Toyota Prius, which is just a secure and environmentally friendly car, not necessarily the coolest or powerful car among other competitive …show more content…
In addition, The Toyota All- New Prius commercial uses humor and satirical tones with the purpose to entertain the viewers of the new Prius. For instance, when pursuing the stolen Prius, an officer with a sarcastic tone asks over the the radio - “How hard is it to catch a Prius?” sort of like implying that they are not a fast car. But, by surprise the other officer’s reply is, “ This thing is actually pretty fast.” Furthermore, the writers proceed to sarcastically make fun of the fact that when you think of a Prius, because they are environmental friendly you will think a hippie or vegan activist driving their Prius to the nearest farmers
