“ who did you vote for?” is a common question asked in any election but is a frowned upon question to ask. The 2016 election had a huge impact in American history. The presidential election of 2016 and the presidential election of 1800 were two of the most divisive and partisan elections in the history of the United States, and many of the lessons learned from the election of 1800 have carried on through the years and become relevant to this election two hundred and sixteen years later. While the election of 2016 is widely regarded as unusual, the election of 1800 was also unusual in its time for some very similar reasons, and Edward J. Larson’s book, A Magnificent Catastrophe, describes that election in dramatic detail. Similarities between the two elections included rampant partisanship, divisions within parties, negative political attacks, and the occasional scandals, though the impacts of these were…

The Election of 1800 brought progressive changes to the political system of the United States. It was the first time in the history of the country in which a two party election took place. The Federalists, who wanted a strong central government, selected John Adams as their presidential candidate. In the opposing side, the Democratic-Republicans, who supported strong state government and ordinance by the people, selected Thomas Jefferson to represent them. I addition to the emergence of a two party system, the election pointed out the flaws of #######.…

Elections have been a part of deciding the President in the United States since John Adams was elected President in 1796. Elections have become a routine process repeated every four years; where politicians debate their way into becoming are next President. But if you take a look at the current election cycle you would be a little confused. In the 2016 Presidential race there are three candidates that are not even politicians in the campaign. And on top of them being in the race they are all doing exceptional well, collectively having most of the people’s top vote.…

Trump believes that illegal immigration is destroying U.S. taxpayers, and he believes that neither Republicans nor Democrats are helping the situation. Republicans don’t do anything about illegal immigration because some of their business supporters want cheap labor. Democrats look at illegal immigrants as potential Democratic voters (135-136). Both Democrats and Republicans may have their reasons for illegal immigrants to stay, but Donald Trump thinks that the parties need to put America’s interests first and that illegal immigrants need to return from whence they came. Trump then continues to discuss that illegal immigrants are by definition, lawbreakers, and refers to them as “illegal aliens” due to the fact that illegal immigrants are often members or violent gangs.…

Supplementing her uplifting advice, Zoe Lofgren revealed the government’s current attitude toward problems such as that of immigration. As an advocate for immigration reform, she believes that the immigration laws of today need complete change. She stated that Trump aims to deport immigrants without documentation who have either committed a crime or have filled out I-9 forms with false information. However, these two categories make up 100% of the immigrants currently living in the United States undocumented, making it impossible for him to deport all of the illegal immigrants due to their immense numbers. I fully agree with Zoe that the government needs to change the immigration laws, as they are unreasonable given the amount of immigrants and the fact that many of these immigrants simply want security by living in the nation.…

However, in all that excitement the 1992 election is also a representation of the issues that the U.S. election process contains. Robert D. The presidential election is coming up in November, many must decide, like myself, who will lead the United States of America for the next four or more years. After careful consideration, I would vote for Jeb Bush because he has had previous successful leadership experiences and has proposed effective platforms like advocating for common core in education, pro-life, and protecting the Second Amendment. Jeb Bush is different from all the other candidates because he has had previous political experiences. He first entered the political arena and served the country as the Secretary of Commerce in 1986.…

Deportations is a start to a very in depth solution, and it is now when the United States needs to start acting to progressively solve this issue. The country is very split on how they feel about deportation, but it overall is in the best interest of the American people economically and it will better provide safety for the American people. It is proven that deportation not only works, but as well deters illegal immigrants. Donald Mann in his article, “The Unabated Flow of Illegal Immigrants Must Be Stopped,” mentions how in 1954 the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service deported one million illegal immigrants in just a few months, which produced tens of thousands self-deportations as well as suppressed illegal immigrants from coming…

On January 27, 2017, the first executive order under Trump’s presidency regarding immigration was signed. This executive order implements a temporary ban from seven Muslim majority countries for three months and prevents refugees from entering the country for 120 days. Countless people were upset by this order, including Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson, who filed a lawsuit against the order 3 days after it was signed. According to Ashley Carman, writer for news source The Verge, “The lawsuit will attempt to prove the immigration ban is unconstitutional and that the actions it spurs are ‘separating Washington families, harming thousands of Washington residents, damaging Washington’s economy, hurting Washington-based companies, and undermining…
