2000: The 2000 Presidential Election Of 2000

Decent Essays
The Presidential election of 2000 between Bush and Gore was without a doubt illegitimate. There were to many interruptions, miscalculations, and sabotage. The Governor of Florida was Jeb Bush which is George W. Bushs brother and in some way shape or form, I believe that his brother helped him out in the election. If not his brother, The Secretary of State for the state of Florida, Katherine Harris did almost if not everything in her power to declare bush the victor. In doing so she purged 20,000 votes (which is illegitimate in itself) both ineligible and eligible votes. Furthermore, those votes consisted of African American people which would have sided with Gore in the election. Ultimately making Gore the winner of the 2000 Presidential election

According to Gary Bugh, in the 2000 election, Nader received around 90,000 votes in Florida, which resulted in George Bush winning Florida (51). Bugh also stated, that if the citizens who voted for Nader would have voted for their second choice, which would have been Al Gore, that Gore would have won Florida (51). The same thing happened in the state of New Hampshire that year. According to Robert Dudley, who has a Ph.D. in Political Science, and Eric Shiraev, who has a Ph.D. in Political Psychology, Bush had beaten Gore by only around 7,000 votes (141). Later on Dudley and Shiraev said that according to the polls 8,000 of the 22,000 who voted for Nader would have voted Gore before Bush (141).…

The United States of America is built on the principles of government based on the consent of the people. Because of this, citizens have the right to vote for their mayors, governors, judges and most importantly the president. As the leader of our country, the president should be a direct reflection of Americans. With that in mind, the current system of the Electoral College is not an accurate representation of everyone. Many elections, including that of Rutherford B. Hayes, Grover Cleveland and George W. Bush, have had a candidate with the presidency without winning the popular vote.…

The presidential election is coming up in November, many must decide, like myself, who will lead the United States of America for the next four or more years. After careful consideration, I would vote for Jeb Bush because he has had previous successful leadership experiences and has proposed effective platforms like advocating for common core in education, pro-life, and protecting the Second Amendment. Jeb Bush is different from all the other candidates because he has had previous political experiences. He first entered the political arena and served the country as the Secretary of Commerce in 1986.…

The election of 1896 signified the end of political standoffs. This was the last election in which a candidate tried to win the White House with mostly agrarian votes. This election was pivotal because it helped urbanize the country and it was the first election after the Depression of 1893. Presidential candidates Robert McKinley, who was a Republican and in favor of industrializing the United States, and William Jennings Bryan, who was a Democrat, tried to win the election by campaigning all across the country. The Depression of 1893 placed the Democrats on the defensive, which in turn restored Governor McKinley's stature in national politics.…

During that time , 87 percent of their campaign were in 12 battleground states, and none of those four candidates ever went to 27 states , which included almost almost all of rural America ( Speel). Robert Speel informs that during the election , it is a rare occasion that these people running for your country will actually want your vote. That does not sound sensible , that our future president does not care about everyone’s vote. As a country we should not ignore people and make everybody's vote seen and heard. Another issue with the electoral college is that the votes per state (VpS) is not equal , technically meaning that some votes more than others.…

The 2000 election was a nail biter to say the least. With the deciding factor of who the next president of our country would be coming down to a slim margin, tensions rose between the Republican and Democratic candidates. The accuracy of the votes were questioned by the Democratic Party leading to a series of lawsuit filed in need for a complete recount, due to some flaws in the election system, to be completely sure that Bush won the election. In doing so, this made the politicians have to reexamine their voting system and by doing so, brought up problems such as the, “hanging or dimpled chads”, which is a vote that has not been completely pressed in by mainly older voters, causing controversy in Palm Beach, Florida. These “Chad” votes…

Welcome to America, where your opinion matters, or so you'd think. Every four years, we hear about The Electoral College, but we never talk about what it is, or at least how unfair it is. When we vote, we're actually just voting for the people that vote for president. Then, those people get together and cast their ballots for president, and can basically vote for whoever they want, regardless of who we vote for. In the year 2004, there was an elector who cast his ballot for someone called "John Ewards" which was close to the name of John Kerrys' running mate (Ferbes, Nov 4, 2012).…
