Watching The first 20 hours -- how to learn anything, gave me a new motivation for me to continue to learn how to speak and read in Korean. Josh Kaufman emphasized the 4 steps in learning anything and listening that I need “20 hours” of practice and the motivation, I realize that it’s true. For the past few years, I’ve been teaching myself the Korean language and the “20 hours” of learning, I applied it to learning the new language. This essay will describe the details of what I applied to learning a new language following the “20 hours” that Josh Kaufman said. My first mistake of learning Korean was not diligently practicing Korean every day when I didn’t achieve anything. I used to buy countless books about the Korean language and I told myself that I will finish reading all of them, accordingly, this will let me fluently speak Korean.

Consequently, that step is crucial, I replaced my distraction to actually help me learn Korean even if I continue watching a tv show. The way I try to relax after reading a Korean book, I would go back and watch a Korean show moreover, try to pinpoint what the actors are trying to say without looking at the subtitles. Same goes along with music, I’m always listening to Kpop, in this, I work on my pronunciation of words while I’m singing the lyrics. “Practice at least 20 hours” was something that I’ve done a few months ago. Every day, I’m continuing on watching and listening to Korean shows/music nevertheless occasionally reading texts in Korean to refresh on what I remember. Just a few days without practice can generate me to forget the rules in Korean, but I take the time to motivate myself to remember the rule.
