$ 20 Boss Narrative Report

For the $20 Boss Program I worked in a group along with three other girls from my school. Our business for the program was called KITS Books (the name was the initials of our first names combined). Our business was selling second hand books that we sourced for free at the Isla Capri Markets (every 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month). This business allowed me to understand what it was like running a business and I felt as though I learned many valuable skills.

The $20 Boss Program has really helped me with my entrepreneurial skills. I feel like the entrepreneurial skills I am good at are planning and organization, as throughout the whole program I had to organize the clashes between selling our books at the markets and sports clashes my team and I had, I also, along with the rest of my group had to use lots of planning and organization in order to get our business up and running as we sourced and supplied all equipment needed for our market stall. The library decided to donate after myself another girl in my team went and talked about our business idea at a staff briefing early one morning. Another contribution I made to the business was organizing with the school sports department for the year 10A netball team to have first games on the Saturday we were selling books. As three of the four team members including myself play on the Saturday. By organizing to play in the first round of games we would make it back in time to help sell the books the only thing we missed was the set for the second weekend as we had an away game so we had to be on the bus by 5:45am but on the first weekend it was a home game so we helped set up before netball started. Another contribution I made to the group was brining a table to the markets for the books to go on. I also helped sell the books both

    I want to be a Link Crew Leader because I would love to be able to mentor freshman as my previous Link Crew Leaders did to me. I also feel that becoming a Link Crew Leader would not only allow me to help shape freshman to become better people but to help me become a better person myself. I have been both a volunteer at a summer program for first and second graders and an assistant coach for the special needs program at Alta Loma Little League. At the summer program I was tasked with teaching 3 classes of first graders to type and code. This leadership position not only taught me how to actively communicate with people who learn in different ways, but also taught me to become a stronger leader.…

    “Freakanomics” by Steven D. Levitt fascinated me to how businesses play a part in every aspect of life, even drug dealing. Levitt compared a gang’s organizational chart to a McDonald’s version and it was quite similar, the gang even had a board of directors. “Freakanomics” showed how businesses play the market to their advantage, similar to how “Listerine did not make mouthwash as much as it made halitosis.” I am fascinated by how business can shape the world; I believe it is more than just academic understanding, it is integral to have leadership, good time management, creativity and motivation to be an effective business person. I have all these qualities and would love to improve upon these at university whilst studying business.…

    As I walked into the small building, that in fact looked very enormous at the time, I began to anticipate every answer I would give to the person who interviewed me, so that to them, I would at least seem prepared. Although I had practiced my interviewing skills that very morning, I felt anxious and worried. Not knowing what to expect, many different scenarios ran through my mind, all of which weren't making my situation any better. Questions after questions were asked, all which seemed impossible for me to answer, and I felt as though I blew the whole thing. After the interview, many days passed by, and I had convinced myself that I did not get job.…
