2 + 3 Pre-Pharmacy Advantage Program

Decent Essays
At the University of the Pacific, I intend to be in the 2+3 Pre-Pharmacy Advantage Program. I love the idea of being able to jump into the world of Pharmacy just 5 years after graduating high school. There is a need for pharmacists that can integrate a wide knowledge base into patient care. Pharmacy today revolves around maximizing compliance and selecting the most appropriate medications based on patient health, side effect profiles, genetics, financial resources, and other clinical factors.

I am well equipped for the ever-changing climate of the pharmacy world. For one, I have volunteered at multiple Medicare Part D health fairs and outreach events. At the events, pharmacy students and pharmacists immunize, perform health screenings

As a high school student, I volunteered at the Orland Park Public Library as well as Palos Heights Community Hospital. I was a computer volunteer assistant who would help patrons with print jobs, taking printing money, and help those who had trouble using the Internet. I also helped senior citizens with their cell phones. The librarian would book an appointment and I would be ready to teach the elderly how to use their phone effectively and properly as well as what apps they should download. At eh hospital, I am a sterile supply worker and a courier.…

Then, I worked as a faculty member (i.e. teaching assistant) in the Pharmacy Practice Department at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences (KSAU-HS) in KSA, which included academic, research, and clinical duties. During which, I developed my teaching, research, and clinical skills, and became more interested in Clinical Pharmacy education. Since KSAU-HS was affiliated with the National Guard Health Affairs Hospital, I was fortunate enough to get the chance to have a couple of clinical rotations that helped further develop my clinical knowledge and skills. Then, I decided to join the University of Illinois at Chicago to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree where my clinical knowledge expanded dramatically, improved my time management and communication skills, worked effectively on interdisciplinary teams, and enjoyed studying and working in a very diverse community. So, as a result of these experiences, I firmly believe that I have the skills and the qualities to succeed as a PGY1 resident in your…

I recently had the chance to listen to an entertaining lecture by Dr. Wes Pilkington. As he began talking, I could tell that his speech was going to be somewhat different than those I had heard before him. While he did not do a residency and was not extensively involved in leaderships roles like many of our other speakers, he has still found success after graduation. Although these activities are both important, he highlighted the significance of our rotations. He also offered us a unique perspective on the dangers of pharmacy, as he was the victim of a pharmacy robbery.…

These responsibilities taught me to make use of time and be more social. This environment was amazing to me because I had always wanted to understand how a pharmacy is managed. In the end, I passed the state exam to become a certified Pharmacy…

I took the AP classes required for pharmacy schools and then attended one of the best pharmacy schools in the nation. After taking two years of pre-pharmacy, I am even more certain that pharmacy is the right career for me. I enjoyed learning about how drugs have different effects on our system; it’s amazing how one part of our body communicates and collaborates with another and how microorganisms interact with us. In Pharmacy Orientation I, speakers from different types of pharmacies spoke to the class about what the profession really entails. I started to love pharmacy even more, though it seemed quite different than what I expected.…

My primary interest in a career in Pharmacy came from an overall interest in medicine and helping others. As a third grader, I had the first severe asthma attack that caused the first of several hospital stays. That incident sparked my curiosity about medicine. As an eight year old, I wondered just how a mist through a mask was able to give me a freedom to breath that my body refused to give me on its own. Throughout high school and college, I have consistently held jobs, participated in shadowing experiences of various health care professionals, as well as offer volunteer time.…
