Believe it or not, state 's rights was just as big an issue as slavery was. Many Compromises were made that directly influenced slavery in the early United States, however, these documents also had a basis for determining the rights of the states. I believe that these rights had more of an impact on the development of the Unites States up to the 1850s. Even before the Revolution, America 's original thirteen colonies were used to making their own decisions. Often, we 'll see examples of them blatantly ignoring rules imposed on them, firstly by their mother country in Europe, followed by their own Constitution at home.…
The Eighteenth Amendment was written due to Prohibition. Prohibition happened during the 1800’s; also from 1920 through 1933. Prohibition was the prevention of manufacturing, selling, or transportation of alcohol in the United States. This paper will discuss the reasons that led to the Amendment, how effective the Amendment was, and lastly, the overall benefit of the Amendment. Many Americans were drinking illegally, which led to more people selling liquor via bootlegging.…
"“Where slavery and involuntary servitude is abolished, with the exception as punishment for a crime. That is the 13th amendment, the movie 13th was published in 2016 which elaborates on enslavement and our justice system. 13th was directed by Ava Duvernay showing Americans how the 13th amendment is abused by our justice system.“Where Duvernay is an African American woman who directed 13th which showed a lot of political interviews and interviews with people that have experienced the corrupt justice system. Henry Louis Gates Jr. was the first African American to get a doctorate degree Henry is a Black Lives Matter supporter and was interviewed in 13th. This can create some controversy because in his past he had some trouble with the police, making him biased on the questions he is asked in 13th.…
Andrew Titcomb-Morales Mrs. Holt Legal Systems 4 October 2017 The 14 amendment is that no judge or any government official can take away you rights as a person such as someone’s: life, liberty, or property. This amendment has been used many times in history as a way to back up someone’s case. There are two famous cases that has occurred over time: Plessy vs. Ferguson and Brown v Board of Education.…
Imagine that last week your best friend was murdered. Now, you’re in court and the offender was ruled to have only 11 years of prison, instead of the death penalty in the eyes of the pubic. Would you agree that the punishment given was proportional and justified the crime offended? It certainly wouldn’t have back then, so why is it now? The 8th amendment have changed based on how our prosectives changed over time and so has our ways of interpreting the terms “ cruel and unusual”.…
For The Nineteenth Amendment The Nineteenth Amendment states that male or female should be able to vote in the United States. This amendment was passed on June 4th 1919. The right that lets women vote, the 19th amendment, is also known as woman suffrage. All of the talk about women’s rights started in 1848 at the first movement in Seneca Falls, New York.…
Many people in America and the reformers wanted to expand multiple ideals to make a democratic society. Many attempts for reform were not immediately successful, there was an underlying theme to all reform attempts was the expansion of democratic ideals and during this time political and social reform movements dominated the American people. Religion, Society, and Slavery were some examples of the reform movements in the United States during 1825 to 1850. Religion was an enormous part of expanding democratic ideals, which is what made a part of the reform movements expand the ideas. In the middle of the 1830’s reforms explained that people would be “awakened and reformed, the reformation and salvation of sinners will follow, going through…
Moments in history tend to stick out the most. Pearl Harbor, D-Day, 9/11, and Independence Day survive so prominently within our history as singular days. What made the twenties so notorious in our history? It was the first time our country saw a massive change in culture, ways of thinking, government policies, and the rise of organized crime.…
Vermont, Maine, and Mississippi (depending on the crime) are the only three states out of fifty that allow voting while in jail, for all other states the voting right is removed while serving time in jail, prison, on parole or probation. For all 50 states, the right to vote is restored after serving the correct time or term. Some conditions apply for certain states, but it is still possible to retain the right to vote. The major of the states have the law, which is you lose the right to vote while serving your term and retain it afterwards, but other states have different laws. I believe that the right to vote should be revoked while serving your time, but retained after you’ve served your term.…
The 13th Amendment, passed by Congress January 31, 1865, and ratified December 6, 1865, states: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." The passing of this amendment freed slaves and made it illegal to have slaves, but the 13th Amendment did not give African-Americans the equal rights that they longed for. Consequently, slavery was a major setback for African-Americans leaving them deprived of education, which in the long run made it difficult for African-Americans to obtain any type of power in the United States. This shortfall of education hindered African-Americans from…
An Amendment is a minor change in a document (which in this case would be the adding of laws for the country). I believe one Constitutional amendment that had changed America would be the 13th, simply because it abolished slavery. For a country that is so reliant on religion to guide them, you’d think slavery wouldn’t even be a thing considering how much God dislikes it (Exodus 21:16). Not to mention the way White Americans treated their slaves was just completely disgusting. Ever since White Americans found the “negroes” in Africa they considered them slaves and shipped them unwillingly to America it's been an injustice to humanity.…

Today, there are 27 total amendments that were added to protect the interests and inalienable rights of all citizens so that no one is deprived of life, liberty,…
Furthermore, they included all the rights of the citizens living the U.S. Included in some of these rights were, the right to bear arms, the right to no excessive bails, and the right against unreasonable searches. However, there is one amendment that stands tall above the rest, one that is far more better than the other nine, this reformation is the first amendment. The reasons why this amendment is the most important improvement, is because it formed the nation, allows people to have the freedom of speech, and the freedom of assembly and religion. Firstly, amendment one formed this nation and made the U.S. how it is today.…
Rights of the State under Constitution. Out of those ten amendments, I believe the most important one that most American would pay attention to is 1, 2 and 4. The reason why I think this is every American want to be able to express their opinion/religion, most American feels that they need to have weapons in their home to protect their family and American do not like to be stop and search for no apparent…
