THe claimed that he saw Thomas reaching for a gun and thereby shot him. No gun was ever found. Not even a day after the shooting of Timothy Thomas, the Cincinnati Riots were caused. It lasted four days and caused $3.6million damages to businesses and $2million to the city, 800 arrests were made and the riots resulted in a city-wide curfew. This was the largest urban disturbance in US history since the 1992 LA riots. 5 months later at Stephen Roach’s court hearing he was acquitted of negligent homicide and obstructing official business in the death of Timothy Thomas. Ultimately meaning that the police just got away with another killing of an innocent, unarmed, young black man. Thomas was only 19 years old at the time.

Riots as a direct result of police brutality still continue to this day such as the Ferguson Unrest in August 2014 and the Baltimore Riot in April 2015. Freddie Grey (25) was running through the neighbourhood when two police officers detained him, alleging that he was carrying an illegal switch blade. However it was claimed the officers detained him illegally, pinning him to the ground and being very physical with him. They then took him to the police van, however Grey was having an asthma attack and he pleaded with the officers to get his inhaler. He was then put in the police van on his stomach head first. Whilst in the police van, the officers didn’t put a seat belt on him but they put leg irons on him. The police then went on to pick up three other people that were arrested by the police, all on different occasions. It wasn’t until 30 minutes after the van picked up Grey
