In recent months, peaceful protesters have been shut down for no other reason but to silence their voice; a voice that is constitutionally protected and a voice that has a right to be heard. These are the voices of the Dakota Access protesters. The Dakota Access Oil Pipeline has been hotly debated, causing protests all across the country, most notably in Standing Rock in North Dakota to voice their opinions on the issue yet there voices were silenced before they could even be heard. Peaceful protesters were arrested, doused with pepper spray and mace, covered in tear gas, and sprayed with water in freezing temperatures all for trying to remove a barricade that would stop them from receiving water or emergency supplies. These protesters were constantly silenced throughout the entire protest but they aren’t the only ones. Protests all across the country, and all across the world, are stopped for no reason everyday. Everyday more and more voices like Winston are being silenced and 1984 grows closer to becoming our
