In Shakespeare’s play, Macbeth, People are being original by Macbeth killing Duncan to gain control. Whereas in Orwell’s novel, 1984, People are made to conform by the party using telescreens to yell at them when they step out of line. However Winston becomes original when he thinks against the party. This connects with readers as many people conform and many try be original themselves. Shakespeare and Orwell both connect with the values of their readers to make the readers think they feel the same and therefor make the text mean something to them. In Macbeth by Shakespeare, the characters show they are individuals first by acting independently. Although in 1984 by Orwell, the characters have to be social by being forced by the party. In both pieces the writers show very opposite situations with one being social and one being individual. This connects with the readers as they feel either the same as being social or individual.
