After watching the old film, there were many things that didn’t go with the film correctly. It felt like nothing was well translated from the book to the movie. For instance, the timing of all the events in the movie was inadequately constructed. The movie started off with a 2 Minutes of Hate, at first I thought it was people just watching a movie at the theatres. If I haven’t read the novel, I would have no indication of interpreting what was happening. After the 2 Minutes of Hate, the movie shifted to Winston writing his thoughts and memories in his diary. It only showed Winston writing once and for a diminutive quantity of time, which I believe was mistaken to do. For instance I found that Winston and Julia were just like how I visualised when reading the book. Just like the body structure of Winston and the freckled face of Julia are just one example of the character that looked completely as interpreted. Meanwhile O’Brien and Mr. Charrington didn’t not really look like what I expected. For example, I pictured O’Brien being black-haired and more obese than shown. Also with Mr. Charrington when he exposes himself, it was said that he was younger and taller than he was in disguise. However in the movie, it showed that he was the same age or close to that
