First and foremost, Orwell includes an ample amount of technological ideas in 1984. One of the most important pieces of technology is the telescreen. The totalitarian ruling in Orwell’s novel portrays the immoral wrong of the society as well as many societies around the world today. Orwell writes, “War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength” (Orwell 6). This quotes shows that the citizens in 1984 have been brainwashed and know nothing else but to believe these statements to be true. Anyone with common sense would be able to realize the foolishness of these statements. This is what Orwell wants readers to see. He wants people to see how a totalitarian ruler can manipulate and brainwash his people to believe what he wants them to. The people living in societies like this do not have any control over it. The novel says, “In the end the Party would announce that two and two made five, and you would have to believe it. It was inevitable that they should make that claim sooner or later: the logic of their position demanded it…” (Orwell 80). This exhibits how strong of a hold the ruler of a country has on its people. An article about 1984 says, “In our age there is no such thing as ‘keeping out of politics.’ All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia” (King). This shows the citizen's lives in 1984 are consumed by politics. They live in a world where politics are everywhere and everything somehow ties into them. Their totalitarian rule play a major role in why there society deals with political issues so much. This is true in today’s world still. Almost everything is involved or related to politics. In some places around the world people are living under totalitarian rule just as in Orwell’s novel. Orwell was able to predict that somehow totalitarian rule would still be around and leave an impact on society still
