“At the sight of the words I love you the desire to stay alive had welled up in him, and the taking of minor risks suddenly seemed stupid.” (Orwell 96) Winston's true emotions help further his type of character he’s becoming and the theme of. The sudden love for this girl made him change his mind to stay alive and not to do anything ridiculous which shows how much affection he had for her. To add, Winston changed as a person after meeting this girl. He was no longer worried about ways to get out of the life he had but more on falling in love with the brunette girl. As the opening chapter of part two, we get introduced to the more affectionate side of Winston.
