1984 By George Orwell Essay

In George Orwell's book 1984 it describes a totalitarian society where every aspect of the people's lives who live in the city Oceania, are controlled by the government. In the novel he describes many devices used to watch the people, and bring fear into them so that they wouldn’t want to disobey the government. The government also uses many tactics to bring fear into the people of Oceania as well. Many people argue that we have technology similar to the ones used in the novel, and that our government is constantly watching us as well.After the discovery made by Edward Snowden that the government is keeping tabs on us, many people began to argue that our government is similar to the one in 1984. I believe that the technology used in the novel is similar to ours to a certain extent, some examples being cameras and cell phone taps. The government tries to control what they do and what they believe so that no one will try and rebel against their “Perfect Government”. They do this by constantly telling them that they are being watched and if they try and rebel that they will be traitors to their people, and will be prosecuted to the highest consent. Many argue that our technology is very similar to the technology used in the novel, and that we are constantly being watched by our government and basically being controlled on what we can do.
