1984: Big Brother is watching you
Eric Arthur Blair was born the 25th of June 1903 in Motihari, Bengal Presidency, British India. After growing up to a semi-wealthy family with his father, a British colonial civil servant, Eric travelled around and then joined the Indian Imperial Police in Burma (http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/historic_figures/orwell_george.shtml). After Blair’s resignation in 1927 he decided to focus on becoming a writer. Before his first book 'Down and Out in Paris and London ', published in 1933, Blair decided to take the pen name of George Orwell. “I hate purity, I hate goodness. I don’t want any virtue to exists anywhere. I want everyone to be corrupt to the bones.”

Recently after being tortured Winston begins to show his first signs of conformity (http://1984--concordances.blogspot.com/2010/08/i-hate-purity-i-hate-goodness-i-dont.html) this is also when he and Julia show a sign of unity. In the way that they both want to destroy Big Brother and the system it is controlling over Oceania.

It doesn’t give people the freedom they deserve. Orwell completely blindsides the readers with his ending paragraph, the whole book the reader is lead to believe that Winston might overthrow Big Brother and when he finally seems closer to his goal the book takes a complete U-turn. O’Brian wasn’t who Winston thought he was and Winston gets tortured till conformity, he now at the end of the book loves Big Brother.
