Fashion Speaks Louder than Words What is fashion? Fashion is something that is dealt with everyday. Fashion is never constant. Something that is in today might not be in tomorrow. As Coco Channel once said, “Fashion is made to become un-fashionable.” Fashion tells you what is trending and is constantly searching for the newest of everything. Some say that fashion gives an individual a sense of self-expression. Fashion is a language that tells a story about the person who wears it. According to Katherine Hamnett, a top British fashion designer, “Clothes create a wordless means of communication that we all understand.” Fashion and style are not one and the same. The 1980s had their fair share of accessories that made the style stand out. Accessories included the following: sunglasses, huge earrings, fingerless gloves, and leg warmers. There were different kinds of sunglasses that came out in the 1980s. Ray-Ban Wayfarers were seen back in the 1960 and 1970, but it was not until the 1980s where it sparked popularity. They bloomed in the market because of the 1980 movie, The Blues Brothers. They were also seen in other 1980 movies including: Risky Business, Miami Vice, Moonlight, and The Breakfast Club. Robot sunglasses also arose in this decade. They first appeared in the beginning of the movie, Sixteen Candles. According to Like Totally 80s, “The Italian group Righeira's 1983 music video for "No Tengo Dinero" features the duo sporting these shades, and is worth a look for its sheer 80'sness in its own right.” One of the greatest fashion trends of the ‘80s is the huge earring. “Door-knockers were everywhere in the '80s, from pop stars like Debbie Gibson and Madonna, to the girl next door. It was the ideal earring for the time of excess, it was loud, clunky, and screamed at everyone within a two feet radius to look at your ears,” said by Complex. Celebrities like Madonna and many punk rockers wore fingerless gloves, another fashion trend. There were different kinds of fingerless gloves in the ‘80s like the black lace gloves that gave it a more romantic look; there was the leather glove that more punk rock people wore. One accessory that people did not understood why they were worn is the leg warmers. People used them as a fitness outfit and in a casual way
