In this period many laws were passed which has increased the involvement and democracy of the people. This period of time also seen a changes within government policies which includes anti-corruption government agencies, rights to women and right to vote for the citizen of United State. The role of citizen in this period was significant as people were fighting for their rights and were successful to get the rights they were fighting for. The other problem that American society was on is the rights of African-American and working class people. The poem talks about the long darker past that the country has faced and looked forward into the prosperity of people of United States. The poem also has many historical events and messages that Angelou want to spread to the world to become who you are and to love themselves and nature equally. The poem was delivered to spread the message of learning from the past history of the country and to move forward into bright future.
In the other document, President Barack Obama victory speech describes the Americanism as every people in the country regardless of their race, color, religion and political standing to be equal. The speech also talks about various events in the American history, it ranges from the oppression of women in the past to the slavery period of time. President Obama also talked about the involvement of United Sates into various war and foreign policy and also talked about the New Deal and at last he talked about restoring the American dream and freedom that the country has
