The 1936 Summer Olympics was held in Berlin. In Berlin, the main reason there was controversy was because of Hitler. He started something where he wanted to purify Germany so jews had to be taken out of the country. This led to the president of Germanys Olympic Committee being evicted out of the country. This particular controversy had to do with politics. In the summer games prior to this one South Africa had been banned, were put back in, but then ended up being banned again. In the United States, some activists who were black decided to boycott. Another part of this controversy was when two Americans placed in the men's 200-meter race. According to 1968mexicocityolympics.weebly.com,"the men raising a black-gloved clenched fist during the American national anthem. Most of the 80,000 people in the stadium didn’t understand the significance and others booed (Currie 1999)."
