In 1920 the women's liberation movement, World War I, and the beginning of prohibition changed the fashion for women. The 1920s was the era of the Roaring Twenties and the Jazz Age. The 1920's fashion trends were the looser, shorter and revealing styles. Dresses reached the shortest length, and women were wearing skirts. Dresses were elaborate with beads, bright colors, and fringes. The loose-fitting undergarment replaced the tight-fitting corsets. The youth did not act like the older generation anymore instead; they embraced their youth, had fun, and enjoyed life. Women aimed to maintain the look of the youth, copying the look of younger teens. Women’s fashion in the 1920s displayed their freedom. The new fashions showed how women gain freedom. The short dresses and loose-fitting undergarment granted them more freedom of movement than the long dresses and tight-fitting corsets.
