In the article “17 Reasons Why It’s Better To Be an Only Child” by Alexandra Martal, the main idea is that there are various benefits to being the first and only child in the family. The author mentions numerous times how being an only child can shape who a person is in the future and help them with everyday skills that one may lack due to multiple siblings. I never had an older brother to stick up for me when the boys were mean, I never had an older sister to teach my how to do my makeup without looking like a clown. What I did have was two unbelievable parents who raised me to be a responsible independent woman who is not afraid to speak up for what she believes in. From my experience of being the only child, I have noticed that everything my parents do, they do it for me. They work to make money to provide food, pay for school, and to make sure I am healthy. Being the only child is something not everyone gets to experience, it is a different feeling knowing that my parents sole purpose for doing the best they can is for me. I never had to sacrifice time away from them so they could do something entertaining with the other siblings. On the other hand, if I did have a sibling I would love them as much as I possibly could, but I am not sure how I would feel about sharing my mom and dad with someone who means as much to them as I do. My parents did not have to attend multiple soccer games and discuss who would take who to band practice or pick up the other kids from day care because I was the only one they had concern for. They only had to go to my cheer competitions and my high school football games and, having them there meant the world to me. Looking up and seeing my Mother and Father in the stands always gave me then encouragement I needed to pre-form in front of hundreds of
