The Famous 16th president of the United States was born on February 12, 1809. Abraham Lincoln was a good family member. Only having schooling for three short periods of the day; and the rest of his time he went to work, so that he could help support his family. The southerners didn’t like that he was elected, it made the majority of them furious. Lincoln ordered a fleet of Union ships to help supply South Carolina’s Fort Sumter. Beginning the Civil War was the Confederates fired on both the fort and the Union fleet. During the war, Lincoln drew some criticism for suspending some Civil Liberties. Lincoln considered all of these measures necessary to win the war. Abraham was just wanting to have some family time; then one of the protestors got violent.
Lincoln was the first president that was assassinated. He was killed on Good Friday, April 14, 1865. Abraham’s killer was John Wilkes Booth, an actor and Southern sympathizer. For such a coward that he was, he crept up from the back. Booth shot the 16th president in the back of the head. The fatal shot to the head, was with Booth’s Philadelphia Derringer Pistol; (dagger) the weapon that killed Abraham.
