Afonso was a Portuguese conqueror who was set out on a mission to explore and accomplish three main goals in his voyage of exploration. Afonso ’s first main goal was to spread Christianity and his Christian religious culture. Afonso became one of the explorers such as Columbus, who helped connect the world through cultural exchanges. His second main goal was to secure the spice trade and their routes; making him also a helper in connecting the world through international trade. Lastly, Afonso ‘s third main goal was to establish a Portuguese Asian empire. Afonso eventually successfully built and secured this Portuguese Asian Empire and the spice routes of eastern Oceania. He would eventually have to fight for control of the trade routes against the Ottoman Empire, which he won; making Portugal the first global empire in history. Afonso was the first to establish European sea trade with China during the Ming dynasty. To help connect the world through trade and cultural exchanges, Afonso also fixed the diplomatic relationships with Ethiopia by using priest representatives, and he resolved the diplomatic bonds with Persia, during the Safavid dynasty. The Silk Road was a large route network for trade and cultural exchange and transmission routes, which were all central to the cultural interactions through the regions of the Asian continent connecting people form all walks of life, from China and India, to the Mediterranean Sea. Many things were traded and exchanged along the Silk Road; not only the obvious silk, but religions, technologies, culture, goods and products, and even diseases. Basically, the Silk Road was a system of trade routes that gave people the chance to exchange products and culture. Adam Smith was the person who justified free trade. Over time, Smith’s free trade came under new regulations, etc., that made trade easier among countries; which also helped connect the world using international
