The 16th-Century Renaissance Inspired Fashion: Alexander McQueen
St. Mary Magdalene in a Landscape (Figure 1) has inspired Alexander McQueen Spring 2017 Ready-to-Wear collection (Figure 2). In Figure 1, the woman wears a classic Renaissance-style dress. In Figure 2, this dress adapts several Renaissance fashion features, including fitted bodice, puffed sleeves flared at the elbow, front lace-up, pointed waistline, and square neckline. From the two figures, both share these features.
The most interesting difference between Figure 1 and Figure 2 is their skirts. As shown in Figure 1, the woman wears a full princess skirt. In Figure 2, the model wears a fitted dress, softly following her curves. It may be that this is a Ready-to-Wear collection,
