Saint Thomas was born in Galilee, Israel, and was one of the twelve Apostles. Whilst a dedicated follower of Jesus, he earned the title of “doubting Thomas” on the first Easter Sunday simply because he did not believe Jesus had risen from the dead. According to John 20:24-29, Thomas had not been with the other disciples when Jesus appeared to them, and was in doubt when they told him that Jesus had returned. It wasn’t until Jesus appeared to Thomas and had him touch the fatal wounds did Thomas believe His Resurrection was true. Throughout history, many artists have depicted this moment between Christ and Saint Thomas through various mediums such as paintings, sculptures, and films.

One of the most popular artworks of this event is the 1602 oil painting titled ‘The Incredulity of Saint Thomas’, by Italian artist, Caravaggio. At the forefront of the image is Saint Thomas and Jesus. Saint Thomas is depicted putting his finger in the

Thomas takes time to process this news but remains unconvinced; the script includes word for word verse 25 of John chapter 20 from the New International Version of the Bible. He is shown to be at conflict with his faith and reason, doubting the Resurrection which had reached him by word of mouth from his trusted fellow disciples. Even though Thomas had seen and witnessed the miracles Jesus’ had been able to perform as the son of God, he still remained unsure of God’s power to resurrected His son from the dead. The Thomas portrayed in this video is shown to have kept his dark hair and beard long, and wore a tunic with a mantle, which was the style of the typical Galilean man at the time. He also wore a kippah, a brimless cap which is worn by Jewish men. The purpose of this video is to serve as a reminder to never lose faith, which was what Thomas had done by doubting Jesus’

In 2003, Andre Thomas viciously attacked and killed his ex-wife and her two children, and was sentenced to death row. His defense argued that he was not eligible for death row because of his mental state. The court ignored the argument and passed it off, saying that they were using his illness as an excuse to “get out of” maximum punishment. As demonstrated in this case, mental illness is not given the attention it deserves when determining a sentence. Cases such as these have aroused concern how fair the criminal court is towards the mentally ill.…

Mark and Thomas: Two Tales of Salvation Attempting to reconstruct the life of Jesus through historical records is difficult, tedious, and often frustrating. The few writings and records that have survived the perilous 2,000 year journey into our hands can tell drastically different accounts of what really transpired all those years ago. The Gospels of Mark and Thomas are no exception, especially when tackling the topic of “salvation” or rather “How Does Jesus Save People?” The respective Gospels have vastly different accounts on this subject matter. Mark is fairly clear in his teaching that Jesus died on the cross to save humanity; however, in an extremely metaphoric manner, Thomas dictates that it is good faith in your heart that leads to salvation.…

IV. The Call for the Reconsideration of the Historicity of the Bodily Nature of Jesus’s Resurrection and Its Eschatological Implications Thus, I now turn to the matter of the historical credibility of Jesus’ “bodily resurrection” and its eschatological implications. Unlike Peacocke and Keller’s view of the bodily resurrection of Jesus, it is “credible” or “well-motivated belief” that the resurrection of Jesus was a “bodily” event that happened to Jesus based on the two traditions of many eyewitnesses and Jesus’ empty tomb. On the basis of these traditions, according to N.T. Wright, the early Christians understood the resurrection neither Jesus’ “perceived status in the ongoing church”, nor his “heavenly and exalted status”, nor “the passage of the human Jesus into the power of God”, but affirmed his “bodily resurrection.”…

Even though the Gospels of Mark and Thomas were written in different times of Christianity, Jesus is still portrayed in both. The Gospels’ various depictions of Jesus’s roles and representations emphasizes how it important to examine differences in society as history brings upon new knowledge and acceptance of Christianity and Jesus’s part in it.. As just a few hundred years elapse, one sees the differences and similarities between the roles of Jesus written in the Gospels of Mark and Thomas. Being the first Gospel written, Mark illustrates a more divine image of Jesus as early Christianity was about finding fulfillment in the ministry of Jesus. The Adaptation of Old Testament Titles by Disciples of Jesus: Evolution through New Eyes In a 2012 letter to my siblings, I informed them that I’d be hiking the 540 mile Camino de Santiago in the north of Spain because I needed to spend time talking to God. I’d lost my nineteen year old son and frankly, I needed some answers. If saints and mystics had heard His voice, then I most certainly deserved to. As I trudged up and down the French Pyrenees and through the eucalyptus forests on the Spanish mesa, I looked up and shouted at the top of my lungs, desperately needing to hear some answers.…

In the Gospel of John, the author uses several miracles of Jesus to show that the miraculous acts are specific in nature and directed toward achieving the goals stated in John 20:31. The intention is to understand Jesus is the Messiah and to provide a means of eternal life.1 However, among scholars sometimes there is debate as to exactly how many of these miracles are signs. Most tend to agree that there are at least seven, but a dispute sometimes arises if the Resurrection of Jesus should be considered a sign. Through a review of the purpose of the Book of John, the definition of a sign, and comparison of the signs, evidence will demonstrate that the Resurrection is truly a sign.…

The three most popular and, arguably, most influential philosophers we learn about today would have to be Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates. Even though these philosophers have all left an enormous mark on the world and shaped many of the ideas and thoughts today, there have been countless other philosophers who have impacted the way people think. Of the hundreds of thousands of philosophers who have come and gone during the course of the world, the two that sparked my interest were Saint Thomas Aquinas and John Locke. These two philosophers contributed so much to the study when they were alive, and even continue to enrich the study of philosophy today. They are two very distinct, different people with varying thoughts and views on matters, yet have similarities, as well, that unite them and their ideas.…
