Hiring a freelance writer doesn’t have to be a daunting task if you are well prepared, but that alone isn’t enough if you intend to have a truly successful relationship with your writers. It’s important to have writers on the same page as you, likewise, it’s equally important for the the client to be on the same page as the writer. Writers deal with a host of issues, and the more you understand their perspective, the easier it will be to get exactly what you are looking for. Here are fifteen things you should know before you hire a writer.
1. Writers are undervalued – Go ahead, visit any job board for writers and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about, buyers demanding original, …show more content…
Professional writers despise content mills – Content mills turn out a plethora of shoddy articles. I’ve read them and I know you have too. The internet is littered with them and the problem only seems to be growing. I’m talking about those poorly written articles or blogs that are hard to read or full of grammatical errors and typos, repeating the same, old, tired rubbish. Sure, they can slam out ten or more articles for you in less than a day, however, you shouldn’t expect anything other than rehashed PLR spun at your request. Or worse, have you ever read an article only to say to yourself ‘that made no sense at all’, and never return to that place again? Don’t be one of those guys, do not contribute to the madness.

Not all writers are the right choice for your needs – You need a writer who is familiar with the type of content you require. There are several freelance writers on the market today who stand capable of tackling almost any job you throw at them, however, that’s not always the case. A number of writers don’t perform favorably outside of the area they specialize in. You wouldn’t want a food blogger for your affiliate marketing content if they know nothing about it, alternatively, turning out a report on how to train your dog may be right up their alley.
6. New and emerging writers can be hidden gems – Don’t pass up a writer simply for the lack of a portfolio. A writer just starting out starts at the bottom, just like any other career field, and a good number writers have no problem providing a reasonable sample of their writing skills, especially those starting out. And then you have ghostwriters who typically sign non-disclosure agreements. They could very well be the hidden gem that no one else has, and you have the potential to find them and snatch them
