There are quite a few differences between the story of 1408 and the movie of 1408. The obvious being one is a story and one is a movie. That is why there are gonna be a lot of differences. The idea of a horror author that does not believe anything enters a hotel room, is the same in both the movie and story but there are obviously small differences within details between them. The story is kinda short and there is not much of a plot. And Mike’s stay in the room is not very long. The story never really talked about Mike’s life before or after going into the room. In the movie though, Mike’s life is talked about in quite detail and it is part of his hallucinations in the room. His wife and dead daughter only happened in the movie. Just like

In the movie it takes some time to tell us about Mike’s life. We know what happened to Mike’s marriage and what happened to his daughter. In the story, we are not told anything about a wife or daughter. It is almost as if he did not have anyone but himself in the story. I think giving the info about Mike’s wife and daughter gave us a little more information about Mike, and not just that he stays in haunted hotel rooms and then writes about them. But, you could look at it as in the story, it is just talking about his life after his wife left and daughter died and then in the movie it is showing us his life before the writing. In the story, it kinda left out details about Mike’s stay. It did not really describe and explain everything that happened. Which as in the movie and it got into much detail about everything that happened to him. Seeing the movie kind of helped the story make more sense. In the story, it flew through Mike’s stay at the Dolphin. The story rushed through the scary parts and focused more on the before and after of Mike’s thoughts and his experience in the room. There were a lot of differences between the movie of 1408 and the story. Still being, that one is a movie and one is a story. It’s gonna be like that with any story that turned into a movie. This is a great movie for someone who likes a person vs. supernatural
