13th Day Short Story

Decent Essays
I'm on my thirteenth day and I feel great. So far, I have decreased my food intake and have walked almost 47 miles since I began. Nevertheless, weighing myself this morning was frustrating as I had only lost one and a half pounds since last Friday. My goal was to lose two pounds a week and I missed it. I must be more aware of what and the amount I am eating. Most importantly, eating healthier snacks after my walks in the evening. I also didn’t do myself any favors by enjoying a feast of grilled beef, chicken, pork and quail for Vietnamese women’s day with my wife. I will try not to wallow in it tonight, even though I still feel stuffed. Tomorrow is a new day and I can move on.

Well, I might have spoke too soon because the salmon I got as my meal was very delicious. It was parmesan encrusted salmon, served over mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. I truly do not have a single complaint about my meal. Now, that I probably have your mouth watering, I have to finish up with my personal favorite, my dessert. The famous question was asked “Now did you save room for dessert” and in my family the answer is always “No there is no room, but I will have the..”…

I will like to explain what lesson that I learn from the movie ‘Thirteen Days’. It’s the story of the 1963 Cuban Missile Crisis based on the book by May and Zelikow titled The Kennedy Tapes: Inside the White House during the Cuban Missile Crisis. " Thirteen Days" shows President Kennedy's wise leadership in meeting this challenge as he resisted the demands for air strikes and for invasion. If he had not, we would all be living in a post-nuclear war world, except there would be hundreds of millions fewer of us, especially in the U.S., Cuba, Russia, and Europe.…

The memory of September 15th, 1963 is still persistently clawing at my consciousness, every day reminding me of how grateful I am to be alive. Although, I would have never guessed that I would still remember every waking detail so clearly nearly 14 years later. I often catch myself waking up in a pool of sweat feeling the heat radiating off of my scarred skin from the previous years of nightmares. Every now and then I can even smell the burning of my flesh as i did for weeks upon weeks after the incident. Nevertheless the 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing was a tragedy and it is truly a shame that me and all of Birmingham, Alabama had to wait 14 years for justice.…

The gap between the “good wife, wise mother” ideal and experiences of women in reality is also a crucial point to note. To begin with, while the formal attendance rates for girls at elementary schools did see a dramatic increase from 45% in 1895 (the year The Thirteenth Night was published) to 70% in 1900, girls’ education was not widespread before the First Sino-Japanese War. According to Shizuko Koyama: “Even by the early 1890s, when modern school education in Japan was about twenty years old, girls’ education continued to stagnate…in 1892, for instance, rates of elementary school attendance were 72% for boys, but only 37% for girls – and these were the official figures, with actual attendance being lower. Also, in comparison with 16,000 boys enrolled in middle schools, there were only 2,800 enrolled in girls’ middle schools.”…

“Crazy Sunday” Rough Draft F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story, “Crazy Sunday,” is the story of three passionate individuals and how their lives are intertwined and complicated on the first day of the week, Sunday. In life, Sunday is the most peaceful day of the week, but in this short story, it is ironically the exact opposite. According to WebMD (2010) weight loss has to do with 80% food, 10% training, and 10% genes. Food has always been a problem for me and my weight loss journey. I love to eat out and there was a point in time where I only had soda with my meals and hardly ever drank water. However, as time passed, I noticed that what I put into my body really affected how I felt and functioned for that day.
