Constitution is passed, which ensured the privilege of all races particularly African American men to vote in favor of all U.S. nationals. (FindLaw, 2014) Following after the Reconstruction Era new laws and limitation were put against the African American people. These limitations enacted the Jim Crow law. The Jim Crow law basically states “separate but equal” public facilities in the south. The Jim Crow law put a thin line threw the people by race, blacks have their public facilities separated from whites. The fact that children could only play with children of their race was the way of life during this time. In this course we read the book The Help by Kathryn Stockett and her book takes place around this time. In Jackson, Mississippi there were codes that had to be obeyed by. Black people stayed on the other side of town from the whites. Also maids that worked for the whites had to have their own restroom outside. Everything was “separate but equal” as they say. At the time blacks started gathering up and creating different types of groups that didn’t totally agree with the “separate but equal” law. The one main group that was formed was the NAACP.
