A wonderful and important question to discuss. This was when slavery was abolished in the United States. Slavery was abolished on December 6th, 1865. Because of this, over a 3rd of the population in the Southern states was free, and it was abolished in 27 of the 36 states. However, some states, such as Mississippi, Delaware, Kentucky, and New Jersey, rejected the 13th Amendment, and out of those 4, Mississippi ratified the amendment on March 16th, 1995, which was 130 years later!
