There were many factors leading to the 13 colonies declaring independence from Great Britain. On of the many reasons they wanted to separate from Britain was the taxation on trade. Over the years, Great Britain established many rules that the colonist didn't accept. At first, the 13 colonies were happy to be apart of the British colony, but then the 7 years war occurred. The British lost a great amount of money due to debt and buying expensive supplies for the army and colonies. This is where the taxing began.
