the way he spoke of the other slaves you could tell he really cared about their lives and their children's lives as well. As one may expect, the majority of this book is taken up with slavery and what happens at a plantation.
The Solomon Northup who wrote the book was a carefree happy fellow with a family to feed and house, but throughout the story you see slavery slowly turn this happy man to a broken down man full of fear and loneliness. Before the kidnapping Solomon married Anne Hampton. After marrying Anne, the Northups spent the early 1830s moving around in search of work, eventually beginning a family. The Northups were building a nice life for themselves.By the time they settled in Saratoga, where Northup would remain until 1841, they had had three children in the Northup house, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Alonzo. Both Northup and Anne were happy, hard working, and free. Mr.Northup seems accepting, and proud, of his life. That was in March 1841.Northup
