1. The genre of 'The Twelve Dancing Princesses ' is a short story. But other possible genres it can be put into is fairytale due to the folk-lore theme the characters are set in.

2. The exposition of the story begins with the description of how there is a kingdom with twelve princesses, who 's shoes are ruined in the morning from dancing even though they all sleep in the same room that is locked each night. The king decides that he is quite done with his daughters ' games so tell his kingdom that to anyone who can find out where they are dancing will be named heir to the crown but, they only have three night or else they will be executed. Later the king 's son come to try but falls asleep all three nights, "But the king’s son soon fell asleep;

The rising action begins after the king 's son and several others are killed, where it introduces a retired soldier who is talking with a old women about the challenge. The women convinces the soldier to take on the quest and give a secret weapon to use, a invisibility cloak. The soldier continues to the castle where he welcome with joy by the king in hopes he can solve the mystery. During dinner the eldest daughter gives him a glass of wine but being paranoid he doesn 't drink any, knowing the fate of the late king 's son. Later that night he fakes begin asleep and throws on the cloak the follow the girl out too where they 're dancing. This brings us to the climax where they go through the forest, on to boat, to a castle where they go to dance with other princes. He grabs branches from the forest and a goblet from the castle while being discrete when following the princesses for three nights. Then for the falling action he tells the king on the fourth morning of where they go and shows they evidence, the princesses automatically confess and the king congratulates the soldier for complete the quest and tell him that he can now pick any one of his daughter for a bride. Still humble he says that because of how much older he is then the other he will wed the eldest. And finally the denouement in the story is when the soldier and eldest are married that day and he was chosen as the heir to the kingdom. Everything goes back to normal except now the princesses don 't go dancing every night anymore.and the soldier is now the next in line and married to the eldest.

4. There is one protagonist in the story and that is the retired soldier, who takes on the quest of figuring out where the twelve go dancing every night. The story has a more traditional protagonist but, it also has are nontraditional antagonist considering the antagonists are the twelve sisters who do not want anyone to find out where they go at night and will try and stop the soldier by attempting to drug
