117th Founder's Day Convocation Analysis

Decent Essays
The 117th Founder’s Day Convocation can best be described as motivational. I was inspired by the speaker’s message which articulated that we should not defer our dreams. She said, “If we have a dream, we have a vision.” She challenged us to be like the founding fathers and see our visions to the end. She stressed the importance of not giving up even when things get tough. This had a special meaning to me because I’m about to be a new father and I recently made a decision to finish my degree and continue to pursue higher education in spite of the challenges. I thoroughly enjoyed Bonita Hamilton’s words of inspiration.

Even though they were both anti-communism, their opinions on communism in the USA were completely opposite of one another. In Senator McCarthy’s Lincoln Day speech to the Republican Women’s Club of Wheeling, West Virginia, he talked about how he thought his fellow senators needed to realize that communism is a quickly rising issue, while Senator Smith refutes McCarthy in her “Declaration of Conscience” speech by writing about how she felt that her fellow Republicans were shaming and labeling anyone that was a little bit different or spoke their mind. McCarthy begins his speech by mentioning Abraham Lincoln and how he yearned for…
