The main people who oppose the use of 1080 are mainly farmers and hunters. Peter Salter who has had 40 years’ experience from possum trapping, venison hunting and working with tourists for 30 years, says that he has witnessed first-hand the disgust of tourists when they discover that we use this poison. People like Peter and other hunters and farmers who occupy their time outside in the environment and are directly affected because the use of 1080 can interfere with their daily activities and jobs. It can affect activities such as tramping, hunting and tramping as these are common recreational activities in our country. A drawback from this is that with 1080 lurking on our land, there has been a decrease in deer numbers overall which makes hunting difficult as there are no deers to hunt and leaving farmers and hunters with no work.
