100 Hours To Graduate High School

Decent Essays
, Ignacio Sanchez, a student at Glynn Academy do not agree with students to complete 100 hours of community service in order to Graduate high school. In the following paragraphs I will explain why I do not agree with policy.

One and most critical is the amount of time that it consumes and takes up! Time is one thing that is very valuable no matter who you are. 100 hours is equivalent to almost 4 whole days it might not seem much but if you are a very busy person it will be extremely difficult to accomplish this task or even impossible depending on who you are. You can be a full time student and then have to go to work right after work to be able to pay for your expenses or necessity so you can't really have any spare time to do anything else, especially if you go to school and then go to work, then you have no time to study.

Some students can be extremely smart and pass all their classes with straight A's and have a GPA over 4.0. Some students have there whole life set out for them, so when they find out that they need to complete 100 hours of community service in order to graduate, they would become discouraged and feel like community services should be done by people in jail. After all, individuals in jail don't do anything all day so why make kids who have to work, study and go to school make them do community service. This is not fair to the students for what other people do to the environment and make them clean it

The one size fits it all clothing saying is also being applied to our children’s education. In Freemont High School by Jonathan Kozol, students are having trouble with school instead of enjoying it like most children should be enjoying their high school. Students are having obstacles to continuing their education by complaining that there is no air conditioning in classes, not enough courses, restrooms being closed, substitute teachers, and the library being occupied. In the passage “some of the classrooms ‘do not have air conditioning,’ so that the students ‘become red-faced and unable to concentrate’ during the extreme heat of summer’’…

Before attending high school, my elementary school teachers would talk about civic engagement, and their descriptions lead me to believe that participating in community service would be boring and burdensome. I remember my teachers saying things like,” In high school you’re going to have to do community service in order to graduate. Such as volunteer at an elderly home, or an animal shelter.” Prior to actually completing a service project, I only had an unappealing image of community service in mind. However, once I got to high school, I grew to love community service as well as learn the importance of…

No one ever said that working and going to school time full time would be easy, but it’s all about hard work, dedication and time management. When I graduated high school I knew that my parents wouldn’t be able to afford sending me to college. Coming from a big family with 6 siblings getting a degree would be challenging. One way or another I wasn’t giving up going to college, so I decided to work and go school at the same time.…

Community College Should Stay the Same I don’t agree with Barack Obama’s idea of having free community college. There is many points that you will have to consider when you think of free community college, such as the professors not have the same wage that they are earning as if now. There will be students that might not take the education seriously, their mind will be that since it’s free it will not really affect him/her but as it won’t affect their budget it would affect the university that they'll be attending after community college. I also believe there is no point on making community college free because it is not expensive at all compared to universities but if you think that the tuition you are going to be getting is expensive there…

In his article, “Serve or Fail,” Dave Eggers, a well-known editor and author, tries to resolve a perplexing social dilemma: Under what circumstances is it acceptable for students to dedicate the entirety of their 4 years of college experience completing and excelling in their school work without a proposed break of some sort to help replenish their minds, bodies, and souls? In addition, he suggests that we should not only minimize the school year by a year, but incorporate community service into the school system. His view towards this situation are justified throughout this composition by his use of effective logos, ethos, and pathos. Eggers has a valid proposal towards his audience, but he fails to elaborate on more solutions to further…

This is true in terms or school or the judicial system. As a student at Florida Gulf Coast University I am required to complete 80 hours of service or I can no gradate. I also have to do at least 20 hours every semester with my sorority and even some of my classes require me to do community service hours. A lot of criminals are also given the option to complete community service over jail time. Even though this reason doesn’t seem the most personable or nice, it leads to a lot of good outcome due to the fact that those being forced to do community service often receive more of a blessing from it than those who are being served.…

Some seniors in high school still do not know what they want to be in the future and some others are just careless when it comes to the future, even if they are going to graduate in a couple of days. Some of the high school graduates who are planning on going to the college are just going to figure out themselves. Why go to college if you are just figuring yourselves out? Why not just take a year off for that? School is an extremely stressful time and stress can easily become overbearing for those who strive for excellence in education. Some students, like myself, have part-time jobs while attending school. While upholding such a tight schedule, it can be very difficult to find time to study and do assignments. A job is a requirement so that money is accessible and payments for education are available. School can be expensive and student loans add up, so a job is needed to pay for it.…
