I have been guilty of using my phone at work before for texting and surfing the internet, but it is a habit I am working on. I think working at a internship, focus is so important so you can provide quality work to your employers, and to do a good job. One simple way is to simply turn off your phone when you arrive to the office so you have no distractions. Green states that taking your work seriously is another good tip while at your internship to avoid making mistakes. Mistakes are inevitable at times, but at a internship, it will affect not only yourself. She made an important point that don’t try to cover it up, or make excuses. Own up and fix it, and tell your boss it won’t happen again and make sure it doesn't. I wholeheartedly agree with this because honesty is the best policy. Allowing yourself to own up to your mistakes shows a great deal of character on your part, and it can relate back to developing trust with your employers. Asking for feedback is another tip that will help you gain the most out of your internship because it will help you grow during your time there. I agree it helps to ask for feedback so you know how well you're doing, what you need to improve on and what goals need to be met. I feel that sometimes I’m afraid to ask for feedback of the fear that I am not performing to my expectations. I feel that we don’t like to ask for feedbacks …show more content…
Asking for advice can help you with future jobs recommendation, future career paths, and any concerns about the internship, I think it's a good tip to use because your coworkers are who you see mostly everyday so I think hearing about their professional experience can help you with yours. I find that when asking coworkers for advice, I usually learn alot from them, which improves the quality of my work down the road. If I’m undecided about my career choices, I think asking for advice can help clarify that. Dressing appropriately is a great tip because impressions are everything. How you present yourself is a reflection of who you are. Certain internships and office environment are different. There are more casual laidback ones, and there are more professional ones. I agree that dressing appropriately helps shows your boss that you are ready to work, and that you take your job seriously. It’s good to observe what your co-workers are wearing and adhere to the dress code. You should dress for the job you want because it sends a good message to your coworkers. The last tip the author gives is to say thank you. I think it’s important to thank your supervisor/manager for having the opportunity to intern there. Expressing gratitude reflects good character on your part and shows that you are pleasant to work

Intern Nation by author Ross Perlin analyzes the current state of internships in astoundingly immensedetail. In specific, Perlin focuses on the variety of internships, including “the good, the bad, and the ugly; the paid and the unpaid; the ostensibly academic and the completely untethered; part-time internships lasting a few weeks and full-time ones last a year” (XVI). These elements are described through first-hand accounts; for example, the interns at Disney World and the government interns on Capitol Hills. These elements are also described through in-depth investigation; for example, the 18 percent of interns who work without pay or the evidence of companies and government organizations firing full-time paid staff and replacing them with…

When I first went into the internship I was expecting the work environment to me very strict and intimidating. As I started working more with my team and getting the hang of things I realized everyone was very welcoming to help out when one had questions. I thought when I received projects I would just be left by myself to figure it out but in reality I would always have someone checking and teaching me how to proceed with the projects. Although something’s caught me off guard there were a couple of things that I expected, considering the high profile of Goldman I came into the internship understanding everything is very controlled and secured. There is intensive security training before you actually start anything, as well even though you get help with many projects you do get a lot of projects you get assigned to.…

This lack of communication, and the lack of hiring that goes with it, has led to problems for both employers and their prospective employees. Internships help students to feel more prepared to go to work in their field of choice, even more so if the internship comes with a salary. There is still some disconnect between how a graduate feels and the reality seen by his potential boss. Students could likely better prepare themselves if they would start working on communicating with others early on in their college career. Dostis, Melanie.…

During my second week being a volunteer in Veteran Employment Service (VETS), I was involved in different activities, one of them was to learn more about what I wanted to take out of the internship. They asked me that question last week to figure out and to thinks what I want to accomplish. As a second semester sophomore, I have learned many lessons my experiences that I wish I had been advised about as a freshman. While having experienced much success at the Smith School already, having a mentor could have allowed me to enjoy even more success. I would like to have the chance to offer some of my own insight and experience to the incoming freshman, so that they can reach their full potential. Some areas I would focus on to help the incoming freshman achieve the best collegiate career possible are in coursework and internships. Therefore, the environment was very relaxing and friendly. All three of the company’s representatives, Jeff, Karen, and September, were very friendly and conversational. Although I left out much detail of the conversation, they were constantly laughing and telling short stories about their first internships and the many projects that I could be part off as an intern. Karen had her legs crossed and her hands were constantly playing with her hair, which I believe showed confidence and friendliness; she was not portraying any superiority and was talking to me with much respect and friendliness. Jeff and September looked comfortable and attentive when it was their turn to speak.…
