The main one that is very clear in Taming of a Shrew. There is a lot of emphasis on the fact of male dominance over the opinions and choices of the women, especially since it happens back in Shakespeare’s day. Now for the movie, the female characters have an obvious ability to be able to have some influence and control over the guys. Another difference would be is that Kat comes across as extremely opinionated, but instead of Patrick being an obnoxious guy, he tries to be sweet to her and warm up her behavior and they both change for the better. In the play, Petruchio (Patrick) tries to match the meanness level that Katharina is at to prove really how nasty she is acting. The relationships are healthier in the movie and end up proving to show more compromise between the girls and guys than in the actual play. Another contrast between the two is that Lucentio is a lot more confident in his ability to charm women than Cameron is, and Cameron almost even gives up towards the end. Most people would be able to realize how modern the plot really is, even though it was written almost 500 years ago. This is because teenagers can relate quite easily to trying to impress someone they want to date, or even just the matter of dating in general. Back then, people didn’t have snapchat, email, cars, or twitter to make it easier to try to talk to someone you like. A gentleman in the past would have to try way harder if they wanted to make an impression. 500 years ago, people would’ve definitely not liked Katharina’s personality, but if you fast forward to now, it would probably seem almost normal for a woman to be able to voice her views, especially on the topic of dating. The people around her or him might become irritated or offended by their words, but in the end, most of society would get over
